Written on My Heart was born from my son joining the Bible Quizzing team at our church. On learning some of the recommended techniques, I realized it would be possible to create an app that would simplify several of them. Before we left the launch meeting I had begun writing what would become Written on My Heart.
The memorization techniques available in the app are:
Whiteboard:
Based on the idea of writing the verse on a whiteboard, and then erasing a word at a time while continuing to quote the verse, the Whiteboard module lets you remove words from the beginning, end, or randomly. In settings, you can select the option to leave the first letter of each word as a reminder.
Initials:
This creates a string of the first letter of each word. You then use this as a prompt while you work on the words that fill in the rest.
The Path:
Like walking down a path, this method takes your further into the verse a little at a time. When you initially load a verse, it shows the beginning of the verse, each time you tap “Next” it adds a little more for you to work on. Quoting the entire displayed part of the verse is recommended. Verses are split by punctuation, with a minimum (to prevent a one-word addition) and a maximum for the added portion.
